The founder of Battlefield Press, Jonathan Thompson, sadly passed away in February.
He ran the company, and as his brother Adam has found out, Jonathan did an incredible amount of work, and it was all on his shoulders.
Jonathan was also the RPG designer for Gaslight Victorian Fantasy Setting and Amarillo Design Bureau’s Prime Directive PD20, a Star Fleet RPG.
There are problems, but Battlefield Press will continue. In a heartfelt open letter, Adam R. Thompson, brother and new President at the publisher, told fans;
In February, my brother Jonathan, Founder and President of Battlefield Press passed away unexpectedly. I had not made it to my mother’s front door before I made the decision that Battlefield Press would live on.
Adam faced several problems;
- Gaining access to Jonathan’s computer equipment and files
- Gaining and securing access to Battlefield’s accounts
- Gaining access and using Battlefied’s shop front
- Kickstarters
- Debts
Geek Native covered RPGers doing good and rallying to the Jonathan M Thompson Memorial bundle, and Adam has more thanks to give.
I want to thank Adam Jury and his colleagues at One Book Shelf, as well as Jim Searcy and the Studio 2 Publishing team for their assistance in this area.
The Kickstarters are an issue; Adam reveals a discovery he made barely more than two weeks ago;
Upon getting access I discovered that Battlefield Press has several outstanding kickstarters in various states of fulfillment. We are working diligently to complete those projects and fulfill those projects as promised.
Then there is the battle with money. At the risk of sounding bleak, Adam also explains;
Battlefield Press International is unfortunately a company that currently exists with more liabilities than assets. I am working to change that, but the process will be slow. In the last year there were surprise licensing payments that were unexpectedly invoiced. Those invoices required payment as the products were already in production and in one case already on store shelves.
However, there is hope, as Battlefield Press has products you can buy, boost your collection and support the indie publisher.
Adam points out;
The positive is that with the licensing fees paid, products like the Terran Trade Authority: Starships (40th Anniversary Edition) will provide revenue and support of the bottom line.
Understandably, and one of the reasons Geek Native is highlighting this issue is the need for understanding. Adam asks for it;
While we work on returning the company to profitability, I am asking for your continued support. Please help us advertise our products and our crowdfunding campaigns. Please be patient with us as we move things forward.
