It’s about time we had some more Carl Fredicksen from Up in our lives, and Pixar will deliver just that by way of the traditional short it screens before all of its new releases – in this case, Elemental on June 16th.
In the short entitled Carl’s Date, Carl is psyching himself up with Dug to into town – on a date! It looks like an incredibly sweet, fun little short that let’s us check in with Carl, probably for the last time.
Considering Ed Asner (who plays Carl) passed away not too long after recording this short, it may also be a bit of an emotional one.
Here’s the trailer:
The synopsis reads:
…this all-new short, “Carl’s Date,” finds Carl reluctantly agreeing to go on a date with a lady friend —but admittedly with no idea how dating works these days. Ever the helpful friend, Dug steps in to calm Carl’s pre-date jitters and offer some tried-and-true tips for making friends— if you’re a dog.
Yes, Dug! We’re absolutely certain you have impeccable advice for Carl and he’ll be wise to follow it as it’s bound to lead to some fantastic shenanigans.
Carl’s Date is written and directed by Bob Peterson, with Kim Collins as the producer. It’ll premiere with Elemental on Friday!
