It’s been a hot minute since it was first announced in 2020, but from the looks of it, One Piece will be worth the wait!
Netflix will see the Straw Hat Pirates set sail in a live-action adaptation of the popular manga One Piece in August – and we have the teaser trailer for you right here!
This trailer was first unveiled at the TUDUM 2023 event, and here it is:
From what we’ve seen here, Iñaki Godoy’s Luffy is absolutely perfect, and we’re also loving the first look at some of the monsters – but that arm, tho’. That’s some Stretch Armstrong shit right there!
The motley crew of pirates embark on their Netflix adventure on August 31st, in a bid to see who’ll become the next Pirate King.
One Piece is based on the beloved manga and anime series from Eiichiro Oda, who has also been heavily involved in the series. As the series creator, he also made the promise that nothing would be put out into the world until he himself was satisfied with it.
Seems he’s pretty confident in August’s launch, which is a very, very good sign that it’s full steam ahead for the series!
Here’s what Oda had to say about it:
Considering my expected life span, I believe this is the last chance to bring One Piece to the entire world. If we’re going to do it, I want to be able to supervise things while I’m still active. That’s why I agreed to the live-action adaptation of One Piece back in 2016.
One Piece stars Iñaki Godoy as Monkey D. Luffy, along with Mackenyu (Roronoa Zoro), Emily Rudd (Nami), Jacob Romero Gibson (Usopp) and Taz Skylar (Sanji). Also making up the cast is McKinley Belcher III, Morgan Davies, Aidan Scott, Vincent Regan, Jeff Ward, Craig Fairbrass, Langley Kirkwood, Celeste Loots, Alexander Maniatis, Ilia Isorelýs Paulino, Chioma Umeala and Steven Ward.
