This afternoon I picked up an email news release from KCRW who thought Geek Native might be interested in Felicia Day’s Guest DJ slot at radio station KCRW.
Day stalkers, who? Us? Guilty as charged.
We emailed back and asked for more – and got it! The pictures you see below are exclusive to Geek Native, well, for now, until someone else thinks to ask for them :)
aaaand…
I spoke to the Music Publicity Director at KCRW, Rachel Reynolds, about how Felicia ended up on the radio station in the first place. Great story; as you’d expect, it was a charge led by the engineers!
…two of the engineers who work on putting the Guest DJ Project together are HUGE fans and lobbied me to book her as a guest. Felicia wanted to do the show because she’s a fan of the station, but was too busy so I pursued her for months before it finally happened. We finally taped it right before Comic-Con and she did not disappoint.
You can download (or stream) Felicia Day’s DJ set from KCRW.
Here’s what Felicia had to say about playing The Breeder’s “Cannonball“;
“This track is very seminal in my life because it’s the first time in my life I ever felt cool — in any way, shape or form. I was home-schooled all my life, I was very isolated, I was very studious. I got straight A’s in college – I was an overachiever to the point where I really was not fun to be around (laughs). I think I was 13 at the time, and this was kind of the first album I ever bought on my own in the store and, when I played it, I felt cool. I felt like I could wear some black leather pants and walk down the street…
And this was the first time I felt like Felicia Day was a cool kid and I put on a terrible leather jacket with fringe on it, and I would walk around with a candy cigarette – it was just terrible. I mean, I’m not kidding, I did have a candy cigarette thing going on…anyway, The Breeders…“Cannonball”…makes you cool.”
Of course, as you all know, you can follow the geeky goddess herself at @feliciaday.
