Fort Worth-based Adventures Await is an indie RPG publisher on Kickstarter with an occult-themed tabletop roleplaying game set in Victorian London.
Adventures Await has done that fair but awkward thing of offering a straightforward pledge, so despite dozens of backers, they’re still closing in on their $1,000 goal. You can see progress on the pitch page.
Night Work is a Victorian-era tabletop roleplaying game with an occult theme. Ordinary residents who have been exposed to the horrors that lie just beyond the lamplight now roam this “In-Between” zone at night, either seeking the creatures within or attempting to help others who have become lost in the dark.
Game sessions take between two and four hours to play, according to the publisher, and the system uses only d6. Night Work requires a GM and supports two to five players.
The game engine uses 5 or 6 on the d6 as a success unless the role is made at an advantage or disadvantage. It’s not quite as simple as that, as players can choose to burn an attribute point to turn any roll into a six. That’s a permanent cost, though.
The stretch goals start at $2,500 and go up to $10,000, but as you see from the pledge tier, that would require many backers indeed!
The In-Between is a liminal space, a place that both exists, and doesn’t. The entrances to it are often found in the most inconspicuous of places: the shadow of a streetlamp, the foggy alleyway you always seem to walk past, and that one red door that you swear wasn’t there before. Those who inhabit the In-Between are a dangerous breed, and they tend to prey on those unfortunate enough to wander into their realm. It’s up to the Night Workers, those brave souls who visit the In-Between each night, to protect the innocent and hunt down the monsters that take refuge within.
You can pledge any cash, but there’s only one reward tier. There’s no physical reward, and a pledge of $10 is all that it takes to get a PDF copy of Night Work as a thank-you.
Adventures Await estimates that the PDF will be shipped in August, and that’s pretty soon.
