Faces of Evil is the first adventure for Blood and Doom from Modiphius and Dicetale Games. It’s free to download.
Don’t have Blood and Doom? Well, if you missed the Kickstarter, you’ll have to wait for the complete RPG to hit the shops… or just download the complete Primer Bundle for free right now. That’s more than 500 pages of content.
What is Blood and Doom? It’s a dark fantasy tabletop RPG set in the high fantasy world of Athyr. In Athyr, a world in which prophecies warn of impending doom, a dozen cults compete to spread their corruption.
The Healds of Doom, those otherworldy things that the cults worship, spell the world’s end.
Blood and Doom is a brand-new dark fantasy TTRPG that invites you to explore Athyr’s seven realms, from the vast and parched deserts of Ethennia to the treacherous jungles of Ishta, teeming with primordial beasts. And as you venture forth, be warned – arcane energies from other planes pulse through the land, unleashing unspeakable horrors upon those who dare tread its path.
In Blood and Doom, you’ll find mechanics that fuel fast-paced, cinematic gameplay, yet stay true to the gritty essence of life and death on Athyr. Unearth the nefarious plots that lurk in ancient ruins and long-forgotten tombs. Foil the twisted machinations of humans and creatures alike. Arm yourself with steel and sorcery to confront the rising tide of monsters that threaten this world’s very existence. Heed the omens and portents that foretell of impending doom, lest the darkness swallow you whole.
Faces of Evil, which Modiphius uploaded in April and I’m only now getting around to, gets characters and their players introduced to the setting. The blurb begins;
In this bone-chilling story, the Characters find themselves in the city of Ashar, a remote trading outpost deep within the desert wastes of Ethennia. Something sinister has been going on the past few weeks which has the locals both worried and frightened. People have been disappearing in the night without leaving a trace, and the local temple’s ‘divine sparkle’ has faded since these vanishings started. The denizens of Ashar are blaming supernatural forces such as Djinn, Ifrit, and Dust Devils among other things, and now fear to venture outdoors once the suns go down.
Since Faces of Evil has been around for a while, we’ve had the luxury of some user feedback. On DriveThruRPG, the free to download adventure scores 4.5/5 stars.
Patrick M, who downloaded the freebie, even took the time to write;
Hands down one of the best free RPG products I have ever read. You don’t get the usual 2-3h sample “adventure”, but a fully fledged module with approx. 100 pages that will last you about 3 full sessions depending on your playing style.
