Netflix has just dropped the trailer for the upcoming Bird Box sequel, the horror thriller Bird Box Barcelona – and it looks intense.
Set in the same world as the first film (starring Sandra Bullock), this new story focuses on a father and daughter – Mario and Anna – as they try to find shelter in busy, horrific creature-stricken Barcelona.
In order to survive, the characters have to shield their vision – which isn’t ideal, but when there’s the risk of going crazy insane and immediately committing suicide then who needs eyes anyway, right?
Here’s the official synopsis:
After a mysterious force decimates the world’s population by causing all who see it to take their lives, Sebastian and his young daughter Anna must navigate their own journey of survival through the desolate streets of Barcelona. But as they form an uneasy alliance with other survivors and make their way toward a safe haven, a threat more sinister than the unseen creatures grows.
Anyway, this trailer makes it look like it’s going to be just as thrilling as the first movie, so check it out:
According to producer Dylan Clark: “Our world has never been more interconnected. To explore the phenomenon that is Bird Box with David and Alex Pastor following people surviving in Barcelona is a timely opportunity to not only entertain but also show how dependent we all are to each other.”
Both films are based on the novel by Josh Malerman, and Bird Box Barcelona was written and directed by Alex and David Pastor (The Occupant, The Head).
The cast includes Mario Casas, Georgina Campbell, Diego Calva, Alejandra Howard, Naila Schuberth, Patrick Criado, Celia Freijeiro with Lola Dueñas, Gonzalo de Castro, Michelle Jenner and Leonardo Sbaraglia.
You won’t have to wait long, either; Bird Box Barcelona will be out on Netflix as quickly as July 14th!
