Independence Day director/writer and producer Roland Emmerich has teamed up with Jerome Wu (best known for World of Warcraft) to develop an epic new sci-fi space opera FRANCHISE called Space Nation.
This sounds big, with the franchise currently encapsulating a TV series, video game and a series of animated shorts.
Space Nation will take its first form as a “massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG), where players assume the roles of ship captains, embarking on an epic journey to unravel the mysteries of the Telikos Cluster and immerse themselves in the unfolding grand space opera”.
So, what’s it about? Well, the whole thing is set in a universe centred around an alien species, with three main factions – each with their own ideologies and goals. As you do.
There will be an alpha test for the game launching in August this year, with a commercial launch set for the second quarter of 2024. Following up on that will be the TV series, along with animated shorts and even some spinoff games.

Hollywood’s increasing interest in video games reflects a wider recognition of gaming’s popularity and storytelling potential. The expansive universe we’re building in Space Nation is a tremendous opportunity to captivate audiences wherever they consume entertainment with innovative new forms of storytelling.
Does this mean we’re going to see more of this type of thing? Interactive storytelling is more important than ever, so it feels kinda good this is now being recognised by some big Hollywood players.
Jerome Wu chipped in with:
