We’ve been enjoying The Witcher season three, with the first five episodes having dropped on Netflix last week… but Netflix just wants to make sure you know it’s still Henry Cavill playing Geralt this season.
The streaming service has launched a marketing campaign beaming the message onto various locations throughout the UK, which reads: ‘Yes, he’s still Geralt in season 3’.
Y’know… just in case you were in any doubt.
And because we’re based in Edinburgh, here’s Edinburgh Castle but not quite as you know it!
Other locations showing the message include near The Shard in London, the South Bank, and the White Cliffs of Dover.
Reading between the lines here, I’m wondering if they aren’t a little bit worried that so many people were so put off by the news of Liam Hemsworth taking the role of Geralt in season 4, that they’re predicting the numbers might be a little low already for this season.
Many people have voiced their distaste at Hemsworth as Cavill’s replacement, so much so that they’ve threatened to simply not watch. And Netflix may be worried some people won’t realise Cavill’s still in the show at this point.
Also, if some fans are planning to ignore season 4, then maybe they won’t bother with season 3, either (like the way I felt when they announced the cancellation of the Santa Clarita Diet).
I, however, am savouring every last Goddamn Cavill Witcher moment – whilst I can! (And now I feel very bad for ever doubting Cavill was my Geralt when he was first announced for the role – he’s bloody perfect)
Here’s the original tweet from The Witcher‘s ‘flix account:
As for Cavill’s final season and the last couple of episodes in particular, here’s what Steve Gaub had to say on the matter a wee while back:
“It’s a very strong season for Henry, a great final run for him as Geralt. I think the most important thing for us was to make sure he was very proud of those last [scenes], invariably those last moments are the ones you leave an audience with, and those last couple episodes are very strong episodes for him.”
Supporting that statement, showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich has also recently said that Season 3 will witness a “shift back to the books” – and has made a promise that fans WILL be heard.
I’m two episodes in, and so far enjoying it well enough. Looking forward to a strong season!
