If ‘ominous office’ wasn’t a genre in its own right before now, it damn well should be! The first trailer for Corner Office has just been released by Lionsgate starring Jon Hamm, and it definitely fits.
Following in the footsteps of the likes of Severance and Office Space, it seems like another strange, intriguing and hopefully funny movie about a new employee named Orson, who wants to do his best at climbing the corporate ladder.
Whilst trying to do just that, he stumbles upon a mysterious and swanky big office (think ‘power office’ from the ’90s) that somehow manages to make him feel more confident and realise his full potential. The only catch being that no-one else believes it exists!
Directed by Joachim Back, Corner Office, came to life from a screenplay written by Ted Kupper, and also stars Danny Pudi as Rakesh, Christopher Heyerdahl as Andrew, Sarah Gadon, and Shawn Macdonald as Bradley.
The synopsis reads:
“Misfit Orson finds himself trapped in the absurdities of corporate life. As The Authority’s newest employee, Orson finds it difficult to connect with his enigmatic desk mate, Rakesh, as well as with the rest of his colleagues. His alienation deepens when he discovers a room he’s told doesn’t exist – a place that unleashes his true potential, leading to an ascent up the corporate ladder. Buoyed by his newfound confidence, Orson invites a receptionist into his sanctuary, sparking a climactic clash between the corporate world’s harsh realities and his own wild fantasies.”
Here’s the official trailer so you can decide for yourselves:
What do you think of it? I haven’t quite made up my mind yet, but it has managed to capture that typical dowdy ’90s office look that is now apparently becoming a genre in its own right now!
You should be able to catch Corner Office in cinemas and through digital release on August 4th.
