Good Omens fans have been excited to learn that not only has Neil Gaiman got a potential plot for Good Omens season 3, it was something he actually came up with whilst holed up in a hotel room with the late Terry Pratchett.
We haven’t even seen season 2 yet – or know that season 3 is a given – but with that story behind it, how could it not be?!
Gaiman revealed to SFX Magazine in an upcoming issue that he hadn’t initially intended season 2’s plot as the second instalment – the actual intended sequel was something he came up with during one late night in a hotel room with his original Good Omens collaborator Terry Pratchett.
However, in order to get to that point, Gaiman plotted out a new narrative to be the ‘connective tissue’ between season one and season three (assuming it goes ahead).
This is what Gaiman was quoting saying about the theoretical season three:
Because the hypothetical season three exists, there is a story that is there, and I didn’t feel that we could drive straight from season one into that,” Gaiman explains. “I knew what the stakes were. I knew what the parameters were. I also knew that I had David [Tennant] and Michael [Sheen]. I had the angels from plot number one. I had demons from plot number one. And with anybody that I wanted to bring back, but didn’t have room for right now, I did not have to bring them back as themselves.
This is exciting, as it means season three will be based on the initial plot Gaiman and Pratchett came up with together – and it could be something really quite special! Oh, I do hope we get to see it.
Here’s the trailer for season two:
Good Omens the television series is, of course, based on the famous 1990 fantasy/comedy novel of the same name, following the demon Crowley (Tennant) and angel Aziraphale (Sheen) as they partake in many shenanigans to prevent the apocalypse and… whatever is about to happen in season two!
I’m also excited because of Jon Hamm, who plays the angel Gabriel and who’ll show up to the scene utterly stark bollock naked with amnesia!
Good Omens season 2 will be out on Amazon Prime Video on July 28th – less than a month to wait! Squeeeee.
