The Gaia Complex designer Chris Shepperson, aka Shep, has crowdfunded a new and solo tabletop RPG.
Rectify is a horror game in which your character was evil and is now paying the price. Shep uses ‘experience’ rather than ‘game’, which suggests Rectify could be a bit hardcore. You can find out more on Kickstarter.
In the game/experience the player can physically influence what happens to their character. The example given is one in which, during your trial that you must fill your mouth with ice util it melts. Would you? Could you? Or what about apologising to an ex?
Yeah. Hardcore. Not for youngsters, either.
The game moves around periods of visual storytelling and mindfulness, and much of it with your eyes closed.
The book is 36 pages of recycled sulk paper, with macabre artowkr and a tour through the five trials of hell. That’s what your once evil, now dead, character is facing. Hell.
In life, you were evil. In someone’s eyes at least. A killer. A criminal. A fraudster. A thief. A dealer. You hurt people. Maybe those close to you. Maybe total strangers. Whatever you’ve done and whoever you hurt, deep down, you know you’ve done wrong.
Now you’re paying the price.
Backers who find £6 for the project will be thanked with a PDF copy of the book.
Meanwhile, those who step up to £16 will get the physical Rectify rulebook and the player’s journal. Shep says he can ship the pair worldwide.
That’s it. Go digital or go physical. Backers who pick the PDF route must only wait until August to get all their rewards. Those backers who went physical have a little longer to wait until September.
