This is good timing if you’re an Amazon Prime member or willing to become one for tomorrow’s Big Heckin’ Two Day Prime Day, as Baldur’s Gate II: Enhanced Edition is free. You have to be on Amazon Prime to get it.
I know; using Gog’s own trailer is cruel! It’s worth seeing the game, though, as it’s not new. It’s a classic. The original Shadows of Amn came out in 2000 and was the successful sequel to that great D&D computer game Baldur’s Gate.
If a 20+-year-old game, even as a freebie, is too old for you and you want something newer, then the official full release of Baldur’s Gate 3 is in August. There’s less than a month to wait unless you’re on the PS5, as that release has been delayed. If you’re on the PC, then there’s an early release.
But, back to Baldur’s Gate 2 and the handy Prime Day (which is two days – did we mention that?) release.
We’re expecting freebies as part of Big Heckin’ Two Day Prime Day from Amazon Gaming in the shape of;
- Cook, Serve,
- Delicious! 3?!,
- NAIRI: Tower of Shirin,
- Wytchwood,
- Lunar Axe.
The free-to-download Baldur’s Gate II Enhanced Edition is an incident of timing, but it isn’t immune to the clock. The deal will expire on July 31st.
While the original Baldur’s Gate II came out in 2000, the Enhanced Edition is much younger and dates back to 2013. A mere 10 years ago! Amazon describes it;
Kidnapped. Imprisoned. Tortured. The wizard Irenicus holds you captive in his stronghold, attempting to strip you of the powers that are your birthright.
Can you resist the evil in your blood and forsake the dark destiny that awaits you? Or will you embrace your monstrous nature and ascend to godhood as the new Lord of Murder?
There are some Amazon Day hacks worth knowing. If you’re a student, it’s cheaper as Amazon Prime Student is a thing. In the United States, there is discounted access to Amazon Prime if you’re on SNAP, Medicaid and some other assistance programs.
Is Baldur’s Gate one of the best D&D computer games we’ve seen? In this blogger’s opinion, it certainly is, and Baldur’s Gate III has some big shoes to fill.
