With just a week to go until Oppenheimer, I can’t deny I’m excited – and now Universal Pictures has released this compelling 5-minute opening trailer to get me even more buzzed!
To be clear, this is an ‘opening look’ – which is essentially a five-minute long trailer, rather than the first five minutes of the film.
The video was released with the following message:
The exclusive five-minute Opening Look, edited by the film’s editor Jennifer Lame, reveals new scenes, images and sounds from the IMAX®-shot epic thriller and features the film’s breathtaking score by Academy Award® winner Ludwig Göransson.
It’s not essential viewing, and it does raise the question; do trailers sometimes take away some of the mystery and surprises out of watching a film for the first time? It’s still a question worth pondering, especially when it’s a five-minute long trailer like this ‘un.
I’m sitting here wondering to myself; do I want to watch five minutes of Oppenheimer, or go into it just knowing what I already know?
I’m kind of torn (I also like watching Cillian Murphy in absolutely anything) – but I’ll let you decide for yourself what you want to do.
I do think it’s probably going to be a sodding masterpiece either way, and something I will want to watch more than once, though.
What I am looking forward to, is a Barbenheimer double feature at the cinema next weekend (I didn’t make this genius image below – I don’t know what did, but y’welcome if you hadn’t seen it yet.)
Oppenheimer, starring Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt and Florence Pugh, is out in cinemas on July 21st.
