Xcrawl Classics is a tabletop RPG of commercial breaks, sponsorships and team-based dungeon crawling live-streamed to the Empire.
Dungeon crawling is a profession in Goodman Games’ standalone rule set and world. Xcrawl Classics will be available as a hardcover of around 250 pages, as there are more than 1,00 backers in the first few days. You can find out more on the pitch page.
The opening line in the story is one I can believe;
Improable encounters not found in a standard fantasy setting!
The Beta rule has been available for many years, and for the Kickstarter, Goodman Games have released the Gamma rules for Xcrawl Classics. You can download them for free (PDF) to get an idea of the game.
The standalone RPG puts players in a world of absolute authoritarianism and perhaps a commentary on a world closer to home. Full character generation rules, classes, sub-classes, magic and combat exist.
Xcrawl Classics also includes specialised rules for Fame, Mojo and Wealth. After all, why would you live-stream your dungeon crawl if not for fame and wealth?
The book has that carnival mirror of a fantasy setting, 100 adventure ideas, two introductory dungeons and more than 50 monsters.
Backers at $40 or more, about £31, will get the core rules in PDF as a reward.
Those Goodman Games supporters or newcomers who step up to $60 will also get the printed rules in their thank-you rewards.
However, the limited edition with a DJ Skull on the front cover is swapped for those who can stretch to $70.
At $120, there are the PDF core rules, seven adventure modules, a screen, a reference book and four issues of the XCC Insider.
The DJ Skull edition is added at the $200 tier, and, at the time of writing, this is the most popular option for backers.
$340 unlocks all the core pledges, dice, mojo tokens, t-shirt and PDFs for all the books. There’s a retail tier above this.
Goodman estimates a June 2024 release.
