Hundreds of Kickstarter gamers are supporting Sam Clark and Skullcamera Games’ Slash! RPG. It’s a take on classic horror movies.
Slash! uses special dice, a bit like Fudge dice but with dedicated rolls for some, but this does not seem to be putting people off. The campaign needed $9,000 to fund, and with more than three weeks left on the crowdfunding clock, the tally is approaching $15,000. You can see the latest total on Kickstarter.
As with horror movies from the Nightmare on Elm Street to the homage-parody of Scream, characters are typical archetypes, and there’s a murderous killer out there.
Designed for one-ones or short campaigns, Slash! is a tabletop RPG told in three parts and that too is intended to echo horror movies. The system uses unique dice and integrates a fear track into the system.
There’s a free playtest guide that’s not available to everyone, needing a pledge of at least $10 to unlock it, but it is available right after.
This dice rolling system is entirely unique, but draws inspiration from the Genesis RPG system and the simplified conflict resolution of the TIME Stories board games. If you’re an RPG veteran, you’ll feel right at home, and if you’re new, it’s very easy to pick up! And you won’t have to worry about obscure exceptions or overly “crunchy” systems; our mechanics are simple and streamlined!
That $10 pledge unlocks the playtest guide and is enough to get the complete Slash! TTRPG in PDF.
The complete rulebook with all the extra horror adventure scenario PDFs are the loot rewards, complete with stretch goals, for backers at $19.
There are early bird options, but those have nearly sold out and if you miss Slash! then the hardcover book can still be secured with a pledge of $42. The PDFs are included in that tier too.
However, Skullcamera reserves the words “the full package” for the $79 tier (lower with an early bird), which also adds the dice and casting dice.
There are higher tiers, $129 gets your character into the Casting Deck of cards, and $500 gets you into the Director’s Chair to work on a horror campaign with the publisher.
Sam estimates a delivery of January 2024 for all the Slash! TTRPG tiers.
