The official Marvel RPG isn’t out yet, but if you’re feeling flush, you can spring just shy of £10 for the Playtest Edition.
I’d wait. The Marvel Multiverse Role-Playing Game core rules are due soon; Amazon and smaller retailers like Forbidden Planet say August 2nd for the TTRPG.
The Spider-Verse Expansion has now been confirmed for the game, and as the name suggests, it’s all about the ‘verse. In fact, you’ll be able to create your version of Spider-man. Geek-blogger-Spidey? Is that a thing?
Marvel says that there will be lots of information on Spider-man mythology. That’s helpful as, try as I might, I’ve lost track. We’re also reassured we’re not getting walls of text by a comic-book-style way of presenting the information.
As you would expect, we’re getting stats for key Spider-Man characters like Uncle Ben (probably more than one, right?), Aunt May and those classic Spider-Man villains.
Interestingly, there are even rules for clones and symbiotes which means we’ll be looking at Carnage.
Spider-Verse Expansion is due out in 2024. The Disney-owned comic book movie powerhouse has already announced several other Marvel Multiverse RPG expansions so that we can project a timeline.
The Cataclysm of Kang adventure by Matt Forbeck is slated for November 15th this year, and the X-Men Expansion is due out on February 13th, just in time for Valentine’s Day. I guess Spider-Man will be a few months later, tickling the summer Marvel movie season (Hollywood strikes depending, of course).
