Promising “more play” Marius Colomer de Simon is an architect who has designed clever pop-up tabletop scenery and buildings strong enough to stand water bottles on.
As Acid House Terrain, Marius has brought 28/32mm portable and foldable cyberpunk and sci-fi terrain to Kickstarter. It’s a smash hit, with hundreds of backers and over the €25K goal many times. At the time of writing, there are three weeks to join in.
The materials are plastified, and Acid House says this means they are water (or beer) resistant. I suspect it’s a new word, and some online dictionaries credit Maurice William Ranney with using the word “Plastify” in an article about reinforced plastics and… ahem, can you tell I’ve been a rabbit hole? I think these are cardstock printed, coated and perhaps injected with reinforcing plastic.
Acid House also says their buildings bring verticality… and, gosh, I think I know what that means too. Our tabletop minis can be high up!
The system has an optional grid system and uses terrain tiles locked into position by connectors.
There’s a focus on photography here. Acid House wants you to be able to get your smartphone or camera up close and personal. For example, the plastics used are non-reflective so to reduce glare.
Thankfully, it’s not all about the look, and the set has been designed to be useful as possible so that there are scatter terrain options for street-level battles with half and full-cover obstacles.
Structures are composed of two elements; the inner ring and outer ring. While apart, rings are easily foldable but when they work together the resulting structure can bear more than 3 kg.
Backers get access to the pledge banger for such a €1 contribution, and four dozen and more tabletop gamers have taken this route.
A “25% Vol” Cyberpunk set rewards backers at the €58 tier with a vote option for early backers to steer add-ons.
€98 unlocks the “50% Vol” box, with Acid House showing the loot pile growing in the accompanying photographs.
There’s no 75% option, and the next tier up is set at €148 for the complete cyberpunk boxed set of terrain and buildings.
However, there’s a supersized box set at €168 and a Mega City pledge at €378.
There’s worldwide shipping on offer, and you’ll have to watch whether or not you’ll have VAT to pay on that or not.
Marius Colomer de Simon and team estimate a March 2024 delivery of the Cyberpunk terrain and pop-up buildings.
