Paymaster Games have a quirky idea – tabletop dice in Mayan! The Mayans had complex mathematics and beat the Europeans to the concept of zero.
Ten years ago, the first product Paymaster ever made was a set of Mayan Dice, and now the company is on Kickstarter to do it again. The target is just over $1,000; you can see progress on the pitch page.
These dice are for historians and gamers, using dots, dashes and circles as the Mayans did.
Thankfully there’s a chart to decode the system, and I’m sure it’s a fantastic way to learn! What boggles this blogger’s basic mind is that there’s also a position element to the system!
Paymaster can offer a range of colours; white, Mayan blue, jade green, stone grey and royal purple.
Our dice will cover D4, D6, D8, D10, D12 and D20 that covers the numbers from zero to twenty on the respective dice. Normal Percentile Dice cover the 10s from 10 to 100, the Mayan Number dice will do the same.
Backers who pledge at $12 or more will get the d4 to d20 range of dice in one of the colours, but shipping is limited to certain countries.
Stepping up to $50, you can get all the colours as complete sets for early birds only.
Unusually, there’s an early bird reseller combo. That’s set at $250 but limited to only 5. Paymaster will supply a gaming store with five sets of each colour. After that, there’s a $500 tier for ten sets.
All the tiers offer add-ons, and the estimated delivery is September 2023.
