It’s been 45 years since Space Invaders was released, and now they’ve just had a major augmented reality upgrade – thanks to Google and Taito!
That’s right; following on from the success of games such as Pokémon Go and Ingress, the latest game to get the AR treatment is this 1978 classic, available right now on Android and iOS!
Space Invaders: World Defense is a fast-paced AR game for your smartphone, where you have to defend the planet from invasion as familiar alien enemies spawn from buildings and rooftops, hover above you and dodge behind structures.
The game’s global immersive nature means that players can work together in an international effort to save all humanity by exploring their surroundings and scoring points by finding new Space Invaders and beating them. They’ll also be competing for top scores and unlocking special power ups.
The game looked like a whole load of fun, so of course we’ve already downloaded it here at Geek Native Towers!
The game is compatible with ‘ARCore supported devices’ that run Android 11.0+ or iOS 16.0+. Taking a lookit the list of supported devices via Google’s ARCore documentation, you should be able to play this even if your phone is quite a few years old, and will work with the likes of the original Pixel phone, the 2nd generation iPhone SE, and iPhone 6S.
You can pick up Space Invaders: World Defense on Android and iOS right now!
