In Defiant, characters are powerful supernatural beings controlling a city or similar area after the world’s end. It’s been nominated for Origins, looks gorgeous, skews to the adult and is recommended by Geek Native.
Defiant Reign & Legacy are two new significant supplements, and Game Machinery doesn’t shy from saying how important they are. The Kickstarter asked for €20,000 and smashed the target quickly. You can join in or pick up the core rules as a Kickstarter backer.
There’s no AI art, and the book looks gorgeous. I know; I enjoyed the PDF when this was a small project, and it’s only improved since then. I like the summary “Game of Thrones meets Lucifer” for the setting.
Reign is a supplement for the Defiant roleplaying game that focuses on the political aspects of being a supernatural ruler. It introduces new court positions, rules for using political factions, an in-depth description of Defiant laws and the justice system, and a guide to creating your own Provinces and Domains. Players will also find a set of new Personal, Court, and Marital Themes focused on leadership, schemes, politics, and intrigue.
The life of a Defiant ruler is not just about politics. The Defiant Legacy supplement focuses on royal life’s more private and intimate aspects. It explores the intricate dynamics of raising heirs, royal marriages, matchmaking, weddings, and debuts. Players can also embrace new Marital Themes, which offer the unique role of a Consort—an important figure in the world of aristocracy.
At €36, which is about £31, backers get PDF copies of Defiant Reign and Legacy and the additional New Hethlon expansion with all digital stretch goals that unlock.
Backers who want to go from zero to hero can do so digitally at €54. That’s the level at which Game Machinery adds the core rules and stretch goals for digital. That’s nine worthy downloads, at least.
Alternatively, also for €54 but with shipping to work out is the Defiant core rules in print and again in PDF along with the New Hethlon PDF.
Backers tempted by Legacy and Reign in print can secure both as thank yous at €72. The deluxe upgrade unlocks at €90.
The physical zero to hero tier is at €126 and gets all three named books in hardcover and New Hethlon in PDF. For that, the deluxe upgrade is €156.
There’s a Collector’s Choice box set at €333 for the power backers.
The estimated delivery ranges by pledges, with PDFs due in February next year the print in June and I think there might be an error on the core rules hardback which is set even further away at September 2024, but you can get it before then by going higher up the pledge tree.
