Shadow of the Demon Lord is an Adamantine best-selling tabletop RPG suitable for mature players. It’s dark, people die, and worse things happen to them.
Publisher Robert J Schwalb has found success on Kickstarter for the evolution of the Demon Lord. Shadow of the Weird Wizard is designed for everyone, it has a lighter tone, and characters can be heroes. It’s also made ten times the target funding goal on the crowdfunding platform.

The free Shadow of the Weird Wizard intro includes some pre-genned characters, the game’s rules and an adventure.
This game version is more than just a family-friendly (no family required) of Demon Lord as the rule system has been updated; there are four easy-to-learn novice paths, forty expert paths and more than one hundred master paths.
Weird Wizard also brings a chapter full of equipment, more than thirty traditions of magic with talents and spells for all tiers of play.
The core rules have about 325 pages, tips for running The Shadow of the Weird Wizard, traps, hazards, guidelines for making your own quests, a gazetteer, a bestiary and more than a dozen ancestries.
To kick off your Shadow of the Weird Wizard campaign, we’re offering “One Bad Apple,” a quest for novice characters. This ~10-page quest reveals the threat to mortals contaminated by soul sickness and offers a cure for this plague in ruins from the ancient past.
Backers can support with cash and social shares. Those supporters who pledge $14 or more will get the PDF player’s book as a reward.
At $49, the rewards mushroom to include the Shadow of the Weird Wizard, Secrets of the Weird Wizard, Novice Quest, Sage Screen and stretch goals – all in digital.
The first print books appear in the $99: Secrets and the Shadow of the Weird Wizard.
A deluxe Shadow of the Weird Wizard is added to the thank-you gifts at $249, about £196.
However, there is a $499 tier which gets special thanks and exclusive quests.
Add-ons include the physical edition of the Shadow of the Werid Wizard screen and minis.
There are shipping costs to calculate, and the expected delivery date for all the tiers is August 2024.
