Exit 23 Games solves a problem increasingly acknowledged in tabletop gaming, except they solved it years ago.
The problem? Too often, tabletop minis of females (of any ancestry) rarely wear armour, sensible equipment or clothes.
Geek Native is about to train to Perth for Tabletop Scotland and Exit 23 Games will be there. Kindly, the company’s founder made time for a pre-convention interview and we even spoke about Turbo Dork, the tabletop mini paint company that’s been making (colourful) waves.
Can you please give us an introduction to yourself and Exit 23 Games?
My name is Christopher Chant. I started Exit 23 Game in 2018 when I was on the hunted for miniatures for an all-female blood bowl team.
At the time, miniatures available were not particularly diverse and generally lacked clothing, so naturally, like any hobby that gets out of hand, I created my own!
Turbo Dork boss, Meredith Placko, picked up a second job this year as the CEO of Steve Jackson Games. Is that ambitious? What do you think it means for the companies?
I believe great things come from ambitious people. Meredith has a varied background and is a woman of many talents so I’m sure both companies are in great hands.
Why do you think Fantasy Football is so popular?
It’s remarkable how popular it is. In 2015, over a thousand players travelled to Italy to participate in the World Cup. Unsurprisingly, Games Workshop re-released Blood Bowl the following year! This year is the Blood Bowl World Cup in Spain. As it stands, there are over 2300 coaches signed up to play!
What’s in the future for Exit 23 Games?
We have a few things in development that we’re excited about. We’re best known for bringing products over from the US and making them available in the UK, and we’re always looking for great products that deserve a broader market. Keep your eyes peeled for some incredible products we’re making more accessible. In addition, we’re aiming to have our very own card game, “Sandwich Punch“, available to play at the UK Games Expo next year.
Is there anyone else, company or person, you think might be coming to Tabletop Scotland that you’re particularly keen to meet?
I’m keen to see Trayed & Tested, Parable Games and Eury Dice Games again as I love their products. There are plenty of companies I’ve never seen before, and I’m keen to get to some indie games and RPG creators.
Where else might people be able to catch up with you?
