Tabletop Scotland opens tomorrow, and Geek Native has been interviewing companies, publishers, artists and others coming.
Going to miss out? You can grab snippets of it via Geek Native’s social and Discord. There are also the official accounts.
I’ve talked to a few exhibitors about why they made the time for us and what to expect from them.
We’re getting the chance to see you at Tabletop Scotland later this year. Why did you decide to come to Perth?
Catherine Redgate is an artist, writer and game designer, and a good starting point is her website. Catherine told me;
Tabletop Scotland is the perfect central location and being based in Aberdeen, its not far for me to come at all. It’s great to be part of the Scottish event and I’m delighted to be joining the traders once again for my second visit with Waters Edge!
Nightfall Games might be one of the biggest names going. They publish the Terminator RPG, SLA and Demon Dog. Why are they heading to Perth? Benn Graybeaton;
As native(ish) Scots it’d be rude not to. The team that plans and prepares TTS are awesome and we want to support the Scottish industry as much as we can. Alas life does interfere sometimes, but we made the decision to come back last year when we were unpacking at the start of the con. I’d been here before flying the Modiphius flag and might have been pushing the idea a wee bit.
Honeybadger Games makes edible dice and meeple and, as we discovered in our interview, is heading back into edible games.
We are trying to reduce the number of shows we do in order to focus on the products, and leave the selling to the wonderful companies who stock our range. However I like to get out and meet customers and others in the industry, so will attend a few of the top shows each year. And Perth is definitely one of those!
Lost Haven Art will demo their Abbadon: The Thirteen Seals game and Andy Lever, the founder, told us;
I’m from Scotland, from Greenock which is on the west coast near Glasgow. So Tabletop Scotland for me is very much the home Tabletop Convention and despite being at the UKGE expo I’m actually more excited about TTS. Especially since I’ll be demoing my game there to the public.
Minikin Games will be launching a Kickstarter, so we have an idea why they might be interested and Jay gave us some more insight.
We / Minikin Games is coming to Perth to launch our Kickstarter for “Minikin Berry Brawl” ! Hoping to make a big splash starting on Friday with our release and socialise with other exhibitors and avid boardgamers. Looking forward to meeting our followers and industry friends :) Plus, we are excited to attend a convention more “local” to us as we are a Scottish based studio!
Null Signal Games are the non-profit shepherds of the wildly popular Netrunner. Community head Ronan is going, and in our interview, Ed told me;
While we’re keen to have a presence in the future at all major gaming conventions worldwide, we’re also pleased to be able to support community members who want to represent us at local conventions. You’ll be able to catch up with Ronan from the Dundee area, as well as some of his friends from the local area, where they’ll be running demo games and generally evangelising about Netrunner! I’m sure they’ll bring a variety of decks, for some of the more seasoned netrunner players that might fancy a more competitive game or two, as well as teaching absolute beginners.
Hive Mind Games have completed their Kickstarter for Blood & Glory, an undead Viking 5e setting, and Gateway for the North is free. Josh told me;
Always wanted the excuse to visit Scotland! TTS seems like a great place for indie folks too, we’re hoping to really use that space to get our name out there a bit and debut some shiny new products!
Critical Kit has a busy conference schedule, which we can read about in this chat with Tim Roberts.
We’ll have all of our games, including some new additions, White Sands and Death Valley. We’ll also be bringing a few of our dice to the party.
Exit 23 Games are to be thanked for helping dress female fantasy football players. They’re going too!
We are delighted to be invited to Tabletop Scotland! We absolutely love spending time with the community and chatting about Tabletop games, and Tabletop Scotland offers another opportunity to do just that.
What can visiting gamers expect to see from you at the convention?
Nightfall Games’s Benn reminded me that the new Stoker-heir penned setting has a RPG which is out now.
Everything we have is on our stand and since last year we have; SLA collateral and Species book 1, Terminator 1, Stokerverse, and even a few Yellow Cover Demon Dogs. You’ll need to get in fast to get one of those. There’s maybe a half dozen left!
Minikin directed me to their stand in the Perth-bound centre;
Gamers can easily spot our stand E13 with a big ol’ cardboard stand featuring the cutest water spirit “Lilypad”. We will have a open demo of Minikin Berry Brawl and if you buy a copy on Kickstarter and come up to the stand we will give you some free merch! We have keychains from acrylic to lasercut, pins and plenty stickers. So come along, see if Minikin Berry Brawl is for you and perhaps pick up a cute photo and merch!
Catherine Redgate has freebies for people who say hello early on.
Having attended last year with Waters Edge, the successful Kickstarter has supported the launch of four new expansion packs plus Collector’s Box for the game – I can’t wait to introduce the latest additions to Waters Edge following its well-received feedback from attendees last year. I’ll be available to demonstrate the game alongside lots of Waters Edge merchandise and sneak peeks of my other illustrations as well as having free Bonus Cards up for grabs for the first customers coming to visit my stand!
Honeybadger, who will undoubtedly tempt me with sugar, also have freebies.
Free stuff! We will be offering samples of both our tea and sweets.
Also new stuff. Our Bardic Inspiration dice “Snack of all Trades, Master of Nom” will be new for Tabletop Scotland, and we may also be bringing our 5 new tea flavours…
Andy Lever is splitting energy between demo’ing games already out and introducing Abbadon.
On the Friday I’ll be running my one shot of Abbadon which is open to 4 players, 2 of those spaces have been prebooked on the TTS website, the other two will be available on the day. It’s a short adventure but it shows a lot of the mechanics in the game from a player and GM point of view. Over the Saturday and Sunday I’ll be flogging my artistic wares and my first ever game that I put out which is a Caltrop Core (D4 system) game called Irezumi where players, play as Yakuza.
Hive Mind Games also in demo mode.
We’re running a demo table in our space for our brand new and quite silly game; Brother, Why! It’s all about genuine medieval marginalia and arguing with your pals to get off the hook for drawing them.
We’ve also got our spookier, occult stuff: Eye to the Void is about Divination world history and how to respectfully use that as inspiration in worldbuilding, plus the super creeper At Your Peril that’s all about curses of all forms!
On top of that we’ve got a whole slew of D&D related bits: adventures galore, subclasses and items and such!
Exit 23 Games with their retail experience added;
We’ll have 3-4 gaming boards set up to play Relicblade. Gamers can either play Solo, co-op or versus. I’ll be on hand to run people through the basics, and gamers will be welcome to stay and play as long as they like.
We’ll also have the Turbo Dork range, examples, and samples for people to view. Seeing is believing with colour-shifting paints!
Another shop, Critical Kit, has moved into award-winning games of their own design. There’s new stuff to expect as well.
We’ll have all of our games, including some new additions, White Sands and Death Valley. We’ll also be bringing a few of our dice to the party.
Tabletop Scotland runs from the 25th to the 27th, and tickets can be bought at the door.
