If I asked you if you wanted to POP! yourself, without any context, would you know what I meant? Funko Pop’s new toy line will let you do just that – as in, make a Funko Pop out of yourself.
Apparently this was first premiered at a booth during SDCC, but now the whole experience is available online so anyone can do and have a pop, if you will…
Choose your own silhouette, skin tone, hair length, color, and style, an outfit, accessories – and even a pet! (Unfortunately they only do cats and dogs, though, not monitor lizards or geckos, so I was a bit scuppered).
Well. Having learned of this, of course the first thing I did was get myself to the online builder to try out building Geek Native‘s own Funkos team. It didn’t work as well as I’d hoped.
My reasoning was that, after all, Funkos are so generic, surely it’ll be easy to make Funkos of ourselves, right? Welp, as you may have gathered, Girdy is currently in Perth at Tabletop Scotland, so the gauntlet fell to me to create us both.
Dear Reader, I failed. Mine turned out pretty good (maybe a little bland, but hey what can you do?). However, I found it impossible to create a Girdy as he should be. I couldn’t get the hair right, and there wasn’t even his trademark hat to cover up that fact!
The glasses weren’t bad, though, and I was able to salvage it a little by adding a pot plant (cactus) and a pink cupcake.
Aaaanyway, I’m sure this builder will at least be fun to play around with, and especially if you like to collect Funkos, you might as well go ahead and buy a unique one of yourself. They’ll also make great gifts for Funko fans!
What do you think – are you going to POP! yourself?
