For those awaiting Henry Cavill‘s Highlander reboot, it turns out that what’s coming could truly be worth the wait, and the delays.
Thanks to director Chad Stahelski (also famous for directing the John Wick movies), via the Happy Sad Confused podcast with Josh Horowitz, we now have confirmation that not only is the movie still happening, it could lead to something even bigger.
Here’s what Stahelski had to say about it:
I think we have some very good elements now. The trick is when you have the tagline ‘there can only be one’, you can’t just kill everybody the first time.
So, this could be the first in a franchise. Which means, there can’t only be one (get it?).
This reboot of Highlander has been underway since 2021, but we haven’t heard a whole lot about it since it was first announced. This update from Stahelski is, therefore, giving us some much welcome insights into what we can expect. He said:
I’ll say it for you first, our story engages a lot of the same characters and stuff like that. But we’ve also brought in elements of all the TV shows, and we’re trying to do a bit of a prequel, a setup to The Gathering, so we have room to grow the property.
Well, this is all sounding promising for fans, however sadly so far we have absolutely nada on where the plot is going for this one.
In fact, we don’t even know if Cavill will pick up the famous dragon katana of legendary Connor MacLeod – it’s entirely possible he might be playing a whole new character, who’s not even a MacLeod!
Cavill did have something to say on Instagram when his role was first announced all those years ago (okay, two) – so, let’s refresh our memories:
I’ve been a fan of Highlander since I was a lad. From the movies in all of their 80s, Queen slathered glory to the TV show with an actor who looked remarkably like one of my brothers. Being not shy with swords, and having a director as talented as Chad Stahelski at the helm, this is an opportunity like no other.
Will Christopher Lambert be making a nostalgic return to the big screen for this one? We don’t know that either – this article is full of speculation, Dear Reader. But, can you blame us for getting a tad excited?
