A lot of us got pulled into the Barbenheimer excitement this summer that was looking forward to both Barbie and Oppenheimer releases – and maybe even watching a same-day double feature at the cinema.
Both highly anticipated films did well at the box office, with Barbie being declared the overall winner. But now, it seems someone else wants to profit off the back of these two movies, and that’s Charles Band, director of the Puppet Master horror franchise.
Mr Band is going full steam ahead in producing a film named Barbenheimer, which is actually being fast tracked for release this year. It features a plot about dolls attempting to build an atomic bomb – I kid thee not, this is genuinely happening.
Here’s the synopsis for Barbenheimer:
Deep within Dollsville, a group of fed-up female dolls – led by the brilliant Dr. Barbenheimer – build an atomic bomb. Their mission? To bring down the patriarchy once and for all! But as the battle of the sexes swells, will Barbenheimer and her bevy of beauties end up blowing up more than they bargained for? Comedy, drama, action and Armageddon erupt in Full Moon’s latest freaked out fantasy film, BARBENHEIMER!
I don’t know, maybe I’ve watched too many films come together out of other things over the years, but this one feels particularly gimmicky.
Anyway, its expected to be released around Christmas 2023 via Prime Video. It’s going to be low budget, very silly, and may face some legal bumps in the road along the way. It’s also yet to be awarded a trademark, so we’ll see how that goes.
