Geek Native’s RPG Publisher Spotlight is a monthly feature highlighting a different independent RPG publisher. The Spotlight page is the best place to see who has been featured in the past and to read the articles about them.
I’m far from an expert, but I’ve seen advice and tips for independent tabletop RPG designers given again and again. I sometimes ask for it in RPG Publisher Spotlight polls. I think the most common responses are:
- Build a community: Get involved in the tabletop RPG community and connect with other designers and players. This can help you get feedback on your games and build a following.
- Use social media: Social media is a great way to connect with potential players and promote your games. Make sure to use relevant hashtags and post engaging content regularly.
- Enter contests and game jams: There are many contests and game jams that are open to independent designers. This is a great way to get your games noticed and get feedback from other designers.
- Self-publish: There are many ways to self-publish a tabletop RPG. This gives you more control over the process but requires more work.
- Work with a publisher: If you don’t want to self-publish, you can work with a publisher. This can be a great way to get your game into the hands of more players, but it also means giving up some control.
