Last year, Geek Native wrote about a €1,900 One Piece book selling out. Was it an original? An autographed rarity?
No, not in the usual way – artist Ilan Manouach made 50 single books, each with the entire One Piece story. It had 21, 540 pages!
Printing service YouLovePrint, which offers comic book printing haven’t beaten Ilan Manouach, but they might be up for it! They’ve calculated how much it would cost you to print One Piece (if you had the rights).
As you can see, One Piece is big, but there are bigger series! JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure is giant but Golgo 13 is even fatter.
YouLovePrint’s Kelly Harris, the sales director there, told the press;
We love printing comic books of all kinds, and were really inspired by Manouach’s achievement last year. With the release of One Piece on Netflix, we thought we’d take a leaf from his book and work out the printing costs for other popular manga titles in a similar format.”
Unfortunately, the sheer size of these titles – even the smaller ones – would make them very difficult to open, much less read. Still, they’d look impressive on your book shelves!”
The methodology of the project was also explained. YouLovePrint created a scale to estimate each single-issue printed manga’s recommended retail price (RRP). The ranking was based on the page size, page count, paper type, paper weight (gsm), ink, and spine width of the One Piece sculpture sold by French publisher JBE. The page counts were approximated by averaging a sample group of Amazon listings for each title’s volumes.
