Kudos to Claymore for smashing $50,000 on their first Kickstarter and for poking fun at the overused but sadly appropriate “uncertain times” label with FIST.
FIST is a tabletop RPG box set about paranormal mercenaries doing jobs that no one wants to do and doing them in the Cold War. You can follow or join in the successful crowdfunding project.
For the duration of the Kickstarter, the original FIST is free to download.
Player characters are members of FIST, a legendary rogue mercenary unit. Those PCs are soldiers of fortune who don’t fit into modern society. They are disposable guns for hire, caught up in the death and destruction of pointless proxy wars and oppressive establishments.
FIST’s twist is that PCs may also be superhuman with powers such as turning into ghosts or controlling bees with their minds.
The tabletop RPG reminds us that war is hell, especially for the little guys, and offers;
- Paranormal Mercenaries
- Brutal Action
- Tactical Operations
In the Cold War, the paranormal secrets of the world were your bread and butter. You fought for your life to make ends meet alongside others like you. Stopping disastrous science experiments, infiltrating occult compounds, neutralizing eldritch horrors—these things were all in a day’s work for a FIST mercenary.
Characters in FIST are nearly minions, outnumbered, easily killed, and disliked or hunted by most sources of authority. Characters don’t have tons of money and gadgets backing them up, just wits and a few tools.
But these PCs were the ones who knew the truth about the world. The characters knew that the Cold War was not just a political conflict, but a war against the dark forces that lurked in the shadows. These agents were the ones who fought to keep the world safe from those forces.
Ultra Edition isn’t just a system for building unique characters and sending them on deadly espionage missions, it’s also a palette for creating a world. Half of the 160-page book is random tables, referee advice, premade monsters & NPCs, and guides to things like contraband spy gadgets, multi-session base building, weapon mods and skins, etc. With this box set, we’re going to build out the game even more: we want to provide players an array of high-quality adventures and supplements with which they can flavor their high-octane paranormal action to taste.
The pledge tiers are straightforward; for $20 you can have a PDF copy of the game and for $35 you can have that and the box set.
In both cases, Claymore estimate delivery in about a year’s time.
