The heart-bursting fear promised by the scary voice-over-man in the Abbadon: The Thirteen Seals pitch video is hyperbole. We hope.
In truth, we only have a brief tease of what we should be scared about. Abbadon is a tabletop set in a dark fantasy world, and PCs must battle against hordes to stop the darkness from winning. You can follow progress, which at 23 days left on the clock, is 70% to success, at the pitch page.
The tabletop RPG uses playing cards with players sharing the deck so that everyone is impacted by each draw of the card.
And while Andy Lever and Lost Haven do not tell us much about the game world, we can plainly see the inspiration in games like Darkest Dungeon.
Andy is a freelance artist, and his style, which I like a lot, is less heart-bursting with fear and more ‘coolDark’.
There’s also a Pay What You Want and 64-page quickstart on DriveThruRPG.
Abbadon: Blood Tides is an intro for 3 to 5 players, including the GM (aka the Weaver). It’s had 5/5 star reviews so far, and we have those mentioned in the Kickstarter outro text.
This game offers 4 unique archetypes, that each bring with them diverse talents and abilities, and each is tied to a specific suit within the card deck. It is the will of the Fates that they band together to battle against the evil forces that lurk here.
Backers at the £20 tier are thanked with a PDF copy of the game and all the digital stretch goals unlocked.
At £45, Lost Haven ups the rewards to include a physical copy of the book and physical stretch goals, but backers have to pay shipping.
There’s a £75 tier, which also adds metal pins and an Abbadon deck of cards. The cards are available as an add-on in the previous tier, but not the pin badges.
Higher levels are either for retailers or for backers ready and willing to pledge more and receive multiple copies of the game.
This is Lost Haven’s first Kickstarter; the digital rewards are slated for a February 2024 delivery, and the physical ones in April.
