DnD Shorts, a YouTuber and TikToker, has smashed $1m with Ryoko’s Guide to the Yokai Realms. On offer is a 350+ 5e supplement that weaves kaiju battles with ancient folklore.
There are still a few weeks to join the tens of thousands of backers on Kickstarter.
The deadly kaiju in Yokai Realms aren’t a tuck-in feature as the headline news on the project is an all-new gargantuan monster fighting rule set for D&D’s 5e.
Ryoko’s Guide to the Yokai Realms also promises;
- 5 legendary kaiju monster huntings
- 50+ creatures inspired by yokai myths
- The new Element Bender class
- More than a dozen new subclasses
- 10+ races inspired by races
- 70+ craftable magic items
- More than a dozen ingenious prostheses for ninja
- More than 40 new spells
There’s also a new set of rules for parties who try combo attacks in their desperate battle against those devastating kaiju encounters. In fact, the Kickstarter asks how a game like D&D does not have combo attack mechanics already.
Become a master of shadows, stealth, and silent warfare as a shinobi wizard, a living weapon as bones burst from your flesh as the skeletal blade fighter, and Wild Shape into mysterious, spellcasting creatures as the circle of yokai druid. Or embrace any of the other 12+ subclass options for established 5e classes…
Backers joining the million-dollar RPG Kickstarter club pick up a PDF copy of Ryoko’s Guide to the Yokai Realms at the opening $30 tier. At this level, optional add-ons are unlocked.
The next tier, $60, adds the core rules hardcover to the rewards. BackerKit will be used later to collect shipping fees, and you may still have taxes to pay, as with any other Kickstarter.
Some add-ons manifest as rewards at the $95 level: Ryoko’s Guide, Wrath of the Kaiju, Ryoko’s Lost Notes in PDF, along with Wrath of the Kaiju and Ryoko’s Lost Notes in physical. $100 is the digital deluxe tier, which includes a host of PDF goodies.
The Core Box of Ryoko’s Guide to the Yokai Realms is the reward at $160, and that mixes physical and digital rewards together, including item cards.
There is a deluxe edition of the rules, and that appears in the rewards at $295 tier. The Deluxe Box includes gemstone dice, art book, and dice hold katana.
There’s an exceptional number of add-ons, which include VTT and STL files. Ryoko’s Guide to the Yokai Realms is slated for April 2024 in PDF, but welcome to an early 2025 release as DnD Shorts thinks the physical releases are likely in February 2025.
