David Tennant and Catherine Tate are back in Doctor Who, although Tennant’s Doctor is confirmed as the Fourteenth Doctor. Ncuti Gatwa, who will appear as the Timelord over Christmas, will be the Fifteenth.
Neil Patrick Harris looks amazing as the Toymaker, a character last seen in 1966.
Also in the trailer is Jemma Redgrave as Kate Lethbridge-Stewart while Russell T Davies also returns, behind the scenes, as showrunner. Davies said;
This is just the start, as the fever starts to burn. We’re heading for a November full of Doctor Who surprises, for fans and new viewers alike. Stay alert!
Who is the Toymaker?
There are no spoilers, just speculation, as we can see that the Toymaker has been various and largely unknown possible things in the past. What’s common, though, is that the entity is powerful!
The First Doctor estimated that the Toymaker was thousands of years old and immortal like all the other toymakers. The Twelfth Doctor suggested the menace came from the chaos before time.
Audiobooks and other Doctor Who lore have made the suggestion that the Toymaker is the Guardian of Dreams, a check to the Guardians of Time, making the character the most powerful of the Great Old Ones. THe Seventh Doctor suggested the Toymaker was an Elder God.
In the UK, Doctor Who is available via the BBC’s TV channel or the iPlayer. In the States and elsewhere, Doctor Who moves from Hulu to Disney+ awkwardly during the transition of Specials into the series.
