The core rules for Cloud Empress are out and free to download in PDF. The game uses the horror RPG Mothership for an engine and weighs in at 58 pages of ecological science fantasy.
Publisher, worlds by watt, describe;
Cloud Empress is an expansive, Nausicaa-inspired fantasy campaign setting for the Mothership Sci-Fi Horror RPG. Cloud Empress places you in a world ruled by the patterns of giant magical cicadas. Cloud Empress creates a new Earth, thousands of years in the future inspired by Hayao Miyazaki’s Nausicaa in the Valley of the Wind, Frank Herbert’s Dune, and Hiromu Arakawa’s Full Metal Alchemist.

The core rules come with four jobs – classes, in many RPGs – for PCs to belong to: Sellsword, Lordling, Magician, and Courier.
Thirty science fantasy skills are included, with 30 spells, each with dangerous consequences, 30 crests that can unleash ancient powers and 20 new science fantasy tools of violence.
In keeping with the theme, there are also ten strange utility spores, seven animals, friends and foes.
In total, there are 26 illustrations, which is about one on every other page. There’s no AI art in it.
The release follows a successful Kickstarter. A print book is on the way, heading to retailers in December.
