Once, dice were made from bones, and now Lynx are back on Kickstarter with a gamer set made from various body parts.
I mean, the dice are moulded but clearly human body in design. Are they balanced? Lynx says so, and over 700 backers have pledged to the quirky crowdfunder.
Lynx ran a Kickstarter years ago for RPG condition rings, which seemed to go okay, and this return has picked up a “Projects We Love” for the campaign.
There are two colours available: cleaned bone white and ancient bone yellow. Honestly, I think it’s a tough choice! Each option is done by colour washing the dice, which is a wipe-off of paint, a common and popular technique but one which get slightly different results each time. The technique also keeps the cost down.
However, while the paint is a wash, we’re told the engineering is careful with precision injection molds, a centre of mass on the vertical and horizontal planes and symmetric design.
Lynx are offering one full set of Skull & Bone dice as a reward for €26 backers, though you can support the project for any amount. There are shipping restrictions, though and the company needs to see enough support from Canada and Australia before setting up shipping options from inside those countries as part of their cost calculations.
There are economies of scale as you can get two sets as a reward for €50 in support, three for €72, five for €115 and ten for €220. Some gaming groups may need ten sets of skull and bone dice, but this feels like a retailer option without the label.
It goes higher; Lynx offer twenty sets for €400 and is confident they can ship the whole batch by December 2023.
