There are currently no plans for a Star Trek: Picard movie from Paramount, but that doesn’t mean that Patrick Stewart doesn’t want to make it so – in fact, he’s actively pushing for it.
The Star Trek: The Next Generation and Picard actor has been really quite vocal about his desire for a Picard movie, and although it would feature the other members of the Enterprise-D crew, it would also be something more. He recently told Time Magazine:
“I am gently pushing Paramount to let us do one single Picard movie. Not a Next Generation movie, as we have already done four of those. This would be an expansion and deepening of the universe as we’ve seen it in Star Trek: Picard. I’ve discussed this with Jonathan [Frakes], Brent [Spiner], and LeVar [Burton], and they are all game.”
Paramount+ have pulled no punches when previously stating the final Star Trek: Picard season will be the last we see of the Enterprise-D fan favourites, apparently the show’s cast really want to have one final hurrah.
Stewart has talked about this very thing before, and actually told IndieWire three months ago:
“I think we could do a movie, a Picard-based movie. Now not necessarily at all about Picard but about all of us. And to take many of those wonderful elements, particularly from Season 3 of Picard, and take out of that what I think could be an extraordinary movie. I keep telling people and mentioning it, and so far there’s been no eager response, but it might well happen. And that would be I think a very appropriate way to say, ‘And goodbye folks.'”
I personally have made my feelings on Picard very clear, and a movie is the last thing I want to see. In fact, I cling to the obvious true fact that Picard has been in the Nexus this whole time, and therefore nothing after Generations can be considered ‘canon’.
HOWEVER, I know a lot of fans would love to see a Picard movie, and who am I to deny anyone that (not that I have any say anyway)? I probably just won’t watch it.
What do you think of the prospect of a Picard movie? Are you happy with the events in Picard, and the way his universe has gone? Are you excited for the possibilities of what a movie would bring? Or do you think Patrick Stewart needs to get off Paramount’s back? Genuinely curious – let me know in the comments!
