Exciting news for Prey fans! It seems director Dan Trachtenberg, working together with Hulu, find themselves finally going forward with Prey 2, continuing the tale set in the first movie.
Eagle-eyed reporters first discovered the mention being listed in this week’s issue of Production Weekly, and to be honest, it’s not really come as a surprise – the first movie was a such a hit, and you know there’s just so much more they can do with this now.
Trachtenberg had also previously discussed a sequel:
“The nerd in me looked that far ahead, as far as he could look, before we started writing this movie, but the adult in me said, ‘Don’t count your chickens and just be careful. Try and make the best movie possible, straight away.’ End-credit sequence aside, there is something refreshing about seeing a movie that is not really intended to be just a part one to something else. There’s something nice about seeing a complete thought. On the complete other hand, I love that what would’ve been a post-credit scene in other movies, is an animated end-title sequence in our movie. Our end titles are still storytelling.”
Refreshing our memories for a second, the end title sequence shows Native American-style depictions of numerous predator ships coming down from the sky, whilst the Comanche tribe points up at them. If that doesn’t signify a sequel, we don’t know what does!
Prey focused on the story of Naru, a young woman who is “a fierce and highly skilled warrior. She has been raised in the shadow of some of the most legendary hunters who roam the Great Plains, so when danger threatens her camp, she sets out to protect her people. The prey she stalks, and ultimately confronts, turns out to be a highly evolved alien predator with a technically advanced arsenal, resulting in a vicious and terrifying showdown between the two adversaries.”
The cast was made up of Amber Midthunder (The Ice Road, Roswell, New Mexico), Dakota Beavers, Stormee Kipp (Sooyii), Michelle Thrush (The Journey Home), and Julian Black Antelope (Tribal).
You can stream Prey on Disney+ right now, if you haven’t seen it already – or, you just fancy watching it again!
