Outlandish Games’ first Kickstarter has scored a ‘Project We Love’, counts as a ‘Witchstarter’ (a special promo the platform is doing), and has two games and zero AI.
Defenders of the Wild also has over 1,000 backers and is $10,000 through its funding target. There’s a little under two weeks to join in.
The Kickstarter is named after the board game Defenders of the Wild, in which the players cooperate as animals to fend off the machines.
The tabletop RPG is The Defenders Almanac, and it’s rules-light standalone. Nicely, you don’t need to back one game to get the other.
Defenders of the Wild is pitched at 1 to 4 players, suggesting a solo-game mode, suits ages 14+ and finishes in about 1 to 2 hours, about 30 minutes per player.
The illustrated RPG uses a d6 system, comes in at 120 pages and offers a mission-based structure with fast-paced rules.

Alternatively, supporters can get both by pledging $80 or more, and this tier is slightly more popular than the board game alone.
There’s a bulk offer for retailers, and all editions or versions of the game are slated for an August 2024 delivery.
