Suzy Mosby and ENNIE-award winning designer Matt Finch are Mythmere Games who publish the mithral best-seller Tome of Adventure Design. Mythmere has teamed up with VTT software developers Brave Alice for the Tome of Adventure Design – Fantasy Adventure Builder.
The Kickstarter is at 200% of target and with two weeks to go. The software on offer is for PC, Mac, Link and Tablet, and it not only automates the Tome of Adventure Design but lets you build your own tables and put them together into a generator. You can see the pitch and track progress from the funding page.
Brave Alice, who make RPG Stories VTT, is developing the software.
Brave Alice has put together a 10-minute+ tutorial video and guide if you want a better idea of what’s on offer.
The video is a walkthrough of the process, the logic and the interface. Brave Alice talks about chapters for encounters and ‘mega-chapters’ for a series of discoveries that might become something larger or offer the GM a few options.
Importantly, RPG software Kickstarters do not have a great history of delivery and while it’s not 100% certain, the demo does help reassure potential backers that the system isn’t vapourware.
There are three functions in the Fantasy Adventure Builder: the Adventure Design Tool (based on Tome of Adventure Design), the Table Designer Tool (which allows you to create your own tables), and the My Generators Tool (which runs the tables you create in the Table Designer Tool). These three functions work together as a powerful creative engine. If you write your own adventures, using these three tools will cut your preparation time dramatically and help you improve your creativity!
Backers who support with $40 or more get a Steam Key for the Tome of Adventure Design – Fantasy Adventure Builder. There’s also an access key for the Tablet App plus add-ons.
$50 gets both the above perks and your name added to the credits.
Premium DLC Content is added to the rewards at the $80 tier, while $100 adds the tempting Commercial Use License. That license is also available as an add-on.
The license is necessary if your video channel has ads and you’ll use the adventure builder for it. You don’t need the license if you use the software to develop your own games, even if you publish your adventures for money, nor do you need it if your videos are free.
The project is expected to be delivered around January 2024.
