Samsung really want to convince the world that their SD cards are worth paying attention too. In particular, they want to show you how indestructible they are.
They’ve previous form here on Geek Native as this video that features a shark attack shows.
The current plan is to make use of a weather balloon to carry 100 paper planes 21 miles up. That’s the edge of orbit. At that height the balloon will release the 100 paper planes and they’ll fly back down to earth. Samsung will have the record for the longest paper plane flight.
Here’s the ad bit. These 100 papers will be carrying Samsung SD cards. The idea, of course, is that these cards survive – and I hope most don’t end up in the ocean (as I’m sure they will; given the odds)
What’s even better is that you can go to the Project Space Planes site and try and have your own message recorded onto those SD cards.
I’ve got to admit that this sets off my vertico. There’s something very fragile about sending a balloon into space and then letting something fall from it.
It’s actually quite easy to do. This video shows a recent space trip by a weather balloon – this time with a camera in side. This was a project from a family.
This also really set my vertigo off. I watched it all but from behind my chair.
What do you think? Entirely cool or are you with me and agree that dropping things from space is a little freaky. If you wind up dreaming that you’re holding onto the string of a space bound balloon then Geek Native is in no way legally liable.
