JustWatch likes to keep Geek Native in the loop with stats. All the stats!
As a result, there are two sections in this “State of streaming TV.” first, we’ve got market share for the UK and the US, and if you don’t really care about who’s winning the battle for the living room, we’ve what’s coming and going from your TV set.
Streaming market share in the US
In the States, there’s Hulu, of which The Walt Disney Company own the majority and NBCUniversal with a minority partner, there’s Disney+, which doesn’t have NBCUniversal, Apple TV+, Prime Video, Netflix, Max (once known as HBO Max), and Paramount+.
I’ve asked several times if JustWatch would track the likes of Crunchyroll and HiDIVE. I guess not.
The charts show that Prime Video is just out before Netflix, and the third-place contenders are far behind.
Streaming market share in the UK
In the UK, there’s Disney+, Apple TV+, Prime Video, Netflix, Paramount+, Now, which is Sky, and Sky.
The “others” seem significant here. I wonder where iPlayer fits and if JustWatch is tracking it as fully as possible, BritBox, My4 and others.
The UK charts also show a Netflix and Prime head-to-head, except Netflix is ahead here. There’s no battle for third place; Disney+ is firmly there, and Paramount+ is steadily growing.
Coming soon and last chance to watch in the States
I’ve only returned to Mandalorian season 3, don’t hate me!
Coming soon and last chance to watch in the UK
Judging by name, I Woke Up a Vampire, Loki, The Wheel of Time and Creature seem worth checking out.
Should I catch A Discovery of Witches before it goes?
I’ll admit that the geo-tarding is annoying, but I use Google for my VPN, not NordVPN, AtlasVPN or any other that lets me switch my location.
