Benn Graybeaton, of Nightfall Games and project lead on RPGs such as StokerVerse and Terminator; Jason Juta, a freelance illustrator on Star Wars, Marvel, D&D and Legend of Five Rings, and Garry Harper who’s worked with Modiphius and Son of Oak have founded Typhon Games.
Typhon Games’ first RPG will be ‘When We Die’; they say it’ll be a terrifying zombie survival game.
When We Die is a zombie apocalypse with a difference. Faced with an ecosystem on the verge of irreversible corruption, the few surviving humans must come together and do what they can to not only save themselves from the zombie menace, but also save the food-web from imminent collapse.
When We Die is set in three distinct time periods. Outbreak is the first, where civilisation is on the verge of collapse and the dead have started to rise. Infection is the second, where civilisation is a story to be revived. Extinction is the third, where the infection has overwhelmed the world, and if not addressed immediately, will leave the survivors starving in the face of infected crops and animals alike.
The release schedule is a pattern we’ll be familiar with. A Quickstart first is slated for early 2024, and a Kickstarter to follow.
Benn Graybeaton is the Rules developer at Nightfall Games for the S5S system, which uses d10s, and Typhon Games will have the Typhon Game System, which uses d6s.
We’ve been given a teaser. In the Typhon Game System, only 6s count, but you spend Resilience to transform dice rolls of 4s and 5s to those precious 6s.
You can see how such a system combines with zombie survival.
Geek Native understands that all three founders, Benn, Jason and Garry, continue with their current rules or freelance opportunities.
