Not a fan of virtual dice? Is it not convenient to toss plastic dice around? Unrolly Dice has landed a Kickstarter success with the Unrolly Dragon.
The Unrolly Dragon is a mechanical device that could fit in your back pocket, has the complete set of gamer dice and is still open for backers.
Unrolly Dice say they’re tired of lost dice and they mention road trips as an example. I get that, even on a bus, I don’t fancy spending too long squinting at a smartphone and there’s no way I’d roll the plastic mathrocks.
On the innovation front, Unrolly Dice are keen to push the relatively small size and scratch-resistant materials. There are gifs of the Dragon being hit with a hammer.
Our dice are made from a fully metal construction of 6061-T6 aluminum, coated in a tough scratch resistant coating. The internal assembly is made from a combination of hardened steel components and brass mechanisms. This dice set was designed with tools from today but built to last like mechanical systems used to be.
The catch? It’s not cheap.
You can back the project by sharing it, spending no money at all, but only those who support the project with $185 (about £155) get an actual Unrolly Dragon as a thank-you reward. However, at this tier, there’s no artwork on the device.
At $250, there’s art, and this is the tier most people are going for, and those mechanical machines also come with a first-edition label.
Backers can get more than one dragon; $340, backers get two Unrolly Dragons, and those have art, and $495 gets three.
Most of the Unrolly Dragons are slated to ship in May 2024. The $250 tier, though, is the holiday special and limited in number. Those fifty machines in the USA, will try and ship in December.
