AKB48 is an interesting Japanese pop group. They’re interesting not just because they had origins in indie music in Japan but also because there are 48 members of the group! AKB48 are so far, in fact, that they’re split into several teams; Team A, Team B and Team K – currently with 16 girls in each team. AKB48 is an all-female pop group.
AKB48 are very strong in the anime industry. They provided the ending music to Dragon Ball Kai with a song called Kokoro no Hane/Wings of the Heart but they’ve also had a significant role in Kamen Rider W as well.
It’s perhaps no surprise that the group are guests of honour at the 2010 Anime Expo in the United States.
Many of their videos have a strong anime style to them as well.
AKB48 are now one of Japan’s most popular bands. In fact, their single Sakura no Shiori released in Feburary 2010 sold over 300,000 copies in its first week which is a Japanese record for female artists.
Question is – do you rate them at all?
