Geek Native broke the news at the UK Games Expo (from where it then sailed off into the wilderness) but Nightfall Games have The Musketeers vs. Cthulhu in the Court of King Louis, a short story by Claudia Christian & Chris McAuley, into an RPG.
The tabletop game will not merely use Basic Role-Play but will use the Call of Cthulhu rule set. In fact, they’re working with Chaosium. You can see progress on the pitch page.
Chaosium described the game;
From our friends Nightfall Games comes this licensed Call of Cthulhu Kickstarter, based on the writings of Claudia Christian (well-known from the science fiction TV series Babylon-5) and Chris McAuley. In this new setting for Call of Cthulhu, the Three Musketeers confront a mythical threat that threatens France. The campaign fully-funded within the first few hours and is now into stretch goals. Join the ranks of the Musketeers as they face off against eldritch plots and courtly intrigues
The Call of Cthulhu Quick-Start Rules are free to download.
The campaign has been funded and has been given a shorter run time than usual; there are only two weeks left on the clock. The final book will be A5 in size and 92 pages long.
The game will have pre-genned characters, so you can play Porthos, Aramis or Athos, and there are rules for creating your own Musketeers.
Musketeers vs. Cthulhu will also include pages of combat manoeuvres, allies, enemies and monsters. The game has stats for 17th-century weapons, including the required muskets and two new Mythos times.
Claudia Christian is an American actress, singer, and author, known for her roles as Commander Susan Ivanova on Babylon 5, as Captain Maynard on Fox’s 9-1-1, and as the voice of Hera on the Netflix series Blood of Zeus and Lt. Helga Sinclair in Atlantis: The Lost Empire. She is the founder and CEO of the C Three Foundation, a proponent of the medication-based Sinclair Method for treating alcohol dependence. With Chris McAuley, she co-created the Dark Legacies franchise and writer of ‘Three Musketeers vs. Cthulhu‘.
Backers at £10 will get a PDF copy of the game and appropriate stretch goals as a thank-you reward.
At £25, backers also get the hardback of the RPG.
That’s it. Nightfall has kept it simple, and delivery is slated for March 2024.
