The board game company Glass Cannon Unplugged will make an official Diablo tabletop RPG with Blizzard.
Glass Cannon will run a crowdfunding campaign for the TTRPG, and that’s likely a Kickstarter where they previously attracted nearly 5,000 backers for the Apex Legends board game and very nearly 19,000 for the Frostpunk board game.
The Polish company are also making a Diablo board game.
You can sign up for more information about either from Glass Cannon, and the campaign(s) are due in 2024.
Glass Cannon says,
Sanctuary. Never did a place bear a more ill-fitting name. Here, refuge is sought nowhere but in nightmares, and many a year has grown long since a prayer was uttered with any semblance of faith. The Hells no longer stir, for it is in the Realm of Mortals that the standards of war are blazing anew!
Diablo®: The Roleplaying Game brings the isometric to the immersive, invoking a pantheon of champions to be thrust into the Eternal Conflict and defy the hordes of Hell.
The publisher has also called out four elements it wishes to highlight in the RPG.
Dark Fantasy – In a domain where fire consumes all, the oppressed cry out for your aid.
Inner Struggle – Walk a path between light and dark, where sin and integrity vie.
Action Combat – Test your skills against waves of enemies in pulse-pounding, high-octane combat.
Narrative Depth – Immerse yourself in the rich lore and boundless possibilities of Diablo’s mythos, now at your fingertips.
The game won’t use 5e.
A Facebook post says,
Demonslayers, ready yourselves to witness a long-kept dream come true! Through a collaboration between Glass Cannon Unplugged and Blizzard Entertainment, we are thrilled to announce Diablo®: The Roleplaying Game and Diablo®: The Board Game. Gather a party of champions, battle the legions of the Netherworld, and traverse the Realms of Creation as they come alive on your tabletops.
Dicebraker says the game is due at BlizzCon 2024, likely around November or October.
They also have a quote from Glass Cannon boss Jakub Wiśniewski, who said,
The roleplaying system will be based on the entire franchise and we will invite the players to travel the vast world of Sanctuary east to west, north to south, old and new,”
There’s a Player Survey open for the game, and Glass Cannon is keen to know your age, which Diablo you started playing and what your experience with TTRPGs are.
The survey also wants to know what you feel is essential for Diablo RPG, what excited you the most and what other TTRPGs come to mind when you think about Diablo.
Is Diablo about redemption and sacrifice, corruption and temptation, Heaven and Hell or blurred lines? Glass Cannon is also curious whether you’d prefer one-shots to long campaigns.
The news of the Diablo board game and TTRPG, which broke a few hours ago, rippled across the internet so quickly that Glass Cannon’s site went down but seems to have recovered.
