Buildworld isn’t the name of some steampunk RPG. It’s a builders’ marketplace! You know, hammers, nails, lumber and the stuff you need to survive the zombie apocalypse.
Published last month, Buildworld looked into geekdom with books, computer games, and films and, from their research, could find no taller building than the International Space Elevator.
The International Space Elevator in Ace Combat is 100,000,000 metres high. Compare that to the 500 Republica in Star Wars: Episode 1, which is a mere 4,040 metres … oh, but the 500 Republica is mobile.
Barad-dur? That towering Lord of the Rings construction hits 1,500 metres tall.

How did Buildworld research all this? They combined MetaBallStudios’ 2019 list with additional findings from other sources, including the GTA/Half-Life/Halo Fandoms and the Towering Fiction blog. Then, they included buildings like the Maze Bank Tower from GTA, which are based on real-world structures but not identical.
In addition, they estimated the 500 Republica’s height in Star Wars to be 4,040 meters based on its 1,010 stories (according to Wookieepedia) and the average size of a story in architecture (4.3 meters).
