Hey. Yo. I know I’m the MVP in this DLC, but BRB as I’m going AFK so watch out for those high DPS killer NPCs on your HDR screen!
Did you understand all of that? If so, you get brownie points, as every acronym mentioned above is ranked in the 10 most confusing gaming acronyms in the UK! (The US is slightly different, and in Canada and Australia, it’s different again!)
The table below was put together by Letter Solver who have analysed the monthly Google search volume for 167 popular acronyms to do with dating, video games, business and technology.
This is the video games result for the UK:
Surprisingly, NPC (Non-Playable Character) is the top most confusing gaming acronym for each country, with a staggering 108,000 monthly searches – isn’t that wild?
I didn’t think for one second that NPC would be more confusing than MMORPG or DPS, but there you go.
Thinking this can’t be right? According to their press release, LetterSolver weren’t just half assing this:
To ensure acronym definitions in the final rankings were not ambiguous, they manually checked thedefinitions provided by the top search results on Google for each acronym when searching as a userin each country and removed any ambiguous examples accordingly
LetterSolver have kindly given us the embeddable interactive table below, so you can take a look at the different stats – including for dating, business and tech, too! Just click on the table to change the selection.
I particularly enjoyed the dating ones, although my version of ‘DTF’ is definitely less family friendly!
