Andrews McMeel Publishing has sold the dark fantasy TTRPG Zweihander.
World of Game Design, the new owners, will release ZWEIHÄNDER Reforged, the next edition of the game, next year.
Zweihander: Grim and Perilous, designed by Daniel D Fox, won the 2018 ENnies Best Game and Best Product of the Year, 2019 was the Best Role-Playing Game Release by Game Informer and a Tabletop Gaming Magazine Best Game of 2019.
Andrews McMeel Publishing bought the game and hired Daniel D. Fox in 2019, with Fox heading up the new RPG division. However, Fox left, and the publisher seems to have been backing out of its RPG ambitions.
World of Game Design (WoGD) already has Zweihander in their store. For now, at least, the PDF is still available from DriveThruRPG, but WoGD does not have a shelf there.
A press statement from World of Game Design says;
Books Powered by ZWEIHÄNDER are available through the mass market, hobby retailers, and on Amazon throughout the world. We encourage you to order today from store.WOGD.com.
WoGD will have the game represented at comic, RPG and board game conventions and are planning inclusion in the GM League Organised Play network. There will be “major releases” in the summer.
World of Game Design is a company that helps with Kickstarter consulting, publishing, convention management, organised play and logistics. The promotion plan for ZWEIHÄNDER Reforged plays to those strengths.
The press statement noted;
In a world with a gritty late-medieval setting, characters strive to survive with crossbows and flintlocks as they adventure through sordid cities and dark environments. With rules that skirt the edge of high mortality, gray morality, and epic danger, the game successfully packages the thrill of survival into a tabletop adventure that will be remembered by gamemasters and players alike. It will be supported by a rich ecosystem of media types across all platforms including novels, RPG supplements, core books, accessories, film and television, and will support a thriving third party publisher ecosystem.
