I was over the moon when I read that Doug Cockle (who is the voice of Geralt in the Witcher games) will be returning to play Geralt in Netflix‘s new Witcher anime, Sirens of the Deep.
And I am EXCITED for this! Hearing Doug Cockle as Geralt in the teaser trailer below feels a bit like coming home, because THAT’S MY GERALT! And he will ALWAYS be my Geralt (did I mention Witcher 3 is my favourite video game of all time? Therefore, I am emotionally invested in this entire franchise).
Not that Henry Cavill didn’t do a stellar job of Geralt in the Witcher live action series, and yes I’m still bitter about the whole thing. But I’m allowing Netflix a change to redeem themselves with this.
Here’s what Cockle had to say:
I am super excited to announce my return to the world of The Witcher voicing Geralt of Rivia once again. I’m thrilled to be able to share this next chapter of the White Wolf’s journey with fans of the Witcher universe. Mire taedh aen stráede!
The film is set to be an adaptation of Andrzej Sapkowski‘s A Little Sacrifice short story – which means I potentially need to reread that to refresh my memory before this comes out in 2024.
Interestingly, Anya Chalotra and Joey Batey, who play Yennifer of Vengerberg and Jaskier, will also be reprising their roles for this movie. Hmmmm, as Geralt would say!
Anyway, from what I can see of the teaser trailer, it looks really promising, and I can’t wait to return to the Witcher world once more – this time in anime form.
Also, did you know that CD Projekt Red has some new Witcher games in the works? Polaris is the first game in a new Witcher trilogy, but they’re also currently working on a remake of the very first Witcher game. Great; yet more to add to my ever-growing list of games I have no time to play.
